Timothy J. Davis, 70, of Mundelein IL died on June 25 in his home. He is survived by his wife Karen Wiederaenders Davis, daughter Shelby Matillano (Josh) of Chicago, son Elliot of Chicago and Ragdoll cats, Lou and PD.  He is also survived by his brothers Robert E. Davis (Pat Boddy) of Des Moines, IA; John J. Davis MD (Stacy) of Hoover, AL; Thomas E. Davis MD (Mindy) of Des Peres, MO; and one sister, Susan Steitz (John) of Richmond, VA.  Survivors also include many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Tim was the son of Robert M. and June Davis of St. Louis. He grew up in Kirkwood and Des Peres, MO.  He and Karen married in 1985 and settled in the Chicago area, raising their family in Tower Lakes before moving to Mundelein.

One of Tim’s greatest joys was serving people, evident in both his professional and personal life.  His career in sales resulted in lifelong friendships with clients and co-workers who affectionately called him “Timmy”. He was a loyal and faithful friend. Tim had a gift for being able to strike up a conversation with anyone and develop immediate rapport.

Once retired, Tim volunteered at the school his children attended as he enjoyed being with young people and sharing his life lessons and passion for US military history.  He also volunteered at the Volo Auto Museum where much of his extensive Vietnam military collection was on exhibit.  As a certified appraiser, he specialized in Vietnam War memorabilia.  One of his most memorable appraisal jobs was authenticating and appraising items donated to the Smithsonian War Museum in Washington D.C.

Tim made several mission trips in the 1990’s and early 2000’s including several trips to India where an orphanage and churches were built and other humanitarian services provided.  Tim also travelled to New Orleans with his church after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.  The group rescued individuals stranded in their homes and helped arrange shelter and medical care for victims of that tragic event. The catastrophe left a lasting impact on Tim and fueled his passion for service.

Growing up, Tim was a fan of rock music. The Allman Brothers Band was his favorite. Tim was also a fan of Greg Allman’s musician son, Devon, attending many of his concerts.  Tim was such a regular that Devon gave him the nickname “t-shirt Tim” because Tim would always give Devon a t-shirt when attending his concerts.

Tim and Karen traveled widely in the Caribbean with Negril Jamaica being one of their favorite destinations.

Tim was an avid gardener throughout his life and took much pride in his garden and helping neighbors with theirs.

Most of all, Tim was a doting father to Shelby and Elliot, who will miss their dad dearly.

We will forever cherish the memories of Tim, his wit and the impact he had on many lives.

A memorial service for Tim is being held on Friday, July 7, 2023, 10am at The Hope Collective, 23153 W Miller Rd, Lake Zurich, IL  60047.
