Michael G. Du Bois passed away in Libertyville, Illinois, on Friday, March 15, 2024, after a 3 year walk with cancer. During the last week of his life, Mike was never alone, his loyal friends accompanying him around the clock his final days. He had the biggest heart, loved hard, and would do anything in his power for his family and friends, especially for his daughter, Abbey Jean.

Mike was born December 19, 1970, in Park Ridge, Illinois. He was the son of Gary and Carol (Hutchins) Du Bois. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and Luther North High School in Chicago – where he picked up his nickname, “Doobie”, and a group of friends that would remain an integral part of his life. Mike spent time on the campus of the University of Illinois, pursuing a path that led him to a long-lived career in benefits administration – and a fondness for Illini Basketball.

Mike’s favorite way to spend time was with his daughter and his friends. Mike loved rock music and attending concerts. He enjoyed playing and watching sports and was a huge enthusiast of all Chicago sports teams (except the Cubs). Mike was quick to notice if something was out of place on his desk, his kitchen counter, or if his Cadillac wasn’t sparkling clean. An avid collector of friends, music, lyrics and Van Halen memorabilia, Mike spent his final days listening to his favorite artists and songs. True to Mike’s character, he spent the last couple of months creating a playlist for his friends to remember him by.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to his closest friends, his care team of clinicians at Northwestern Medicine, and all who cared for him – especially in the last few weeks.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Du Bois and sister Laura Du Bois Stephenson. He is survived by his daughter, Abbey Jean Du Bois, his father Gary R. Du Bois, niece Sabrina Stephenson, beloved aunts, uncles and cousins, his circle of close friends who loved him very much, and his tuxedo cat, Beau.

Rock on, Mike. We love you!
