Judith Gail Snell (Van Eyck), passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 11, 1946, Judy lived a vibrant life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering strength. She was 77 years old.

Judy was the beloved wife of Gerald Snell, and together they shared 57 years of cherished memories made while living in Downers Grove, IL and Twin Lakes, WI.  Their bond was a testament to enduring love and partnership.

Family was at the center of Judy’s world. She was the loving mother of Kristen (Roger) Ripp and Brian (Jennifer) Snell, and a devoted grandmother to Nathan, Kevin, Sarah, Sam, Jake, and Luke. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments and milestones.  Judy was loved by many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in the city of Chicago, Judy was a proud graduate of Good Council High School, where she excelled academically and was honored as the valedictorian of her class. Her passion for learning and dedication to excellence guided her throughout her life.

Following her education, Judy embarked on a successful career as both a court reporter and travel agent. Her keen attention to detail and exceptional communication skills made her a respected professional in both fields. Whether capturing the intricacies of legal proceedings or helping clients plan their dream vacations, Judy approached her work with professionalism, integrity, and a genuine desire to serve others.

In addition to her professional achievements, Judy was an avid adventurer who embraced every opportunity to explore the world around her. Whether camping under the stars or embarking on exhilarating travels, Judy’s spirit of adventure knew no bounds. Her love for life and zest for exploration inspired all who knew her.

A talented athlete, Judy was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course, bowling alley, tennis court, and slopes. Her love for water and snow skiing knew no bounds, and she approached every sport with grace, determination, and a competitive spirit.

In her leisure time, Judy enjoyed tending to her garden, engaging in lively games of bridge, delving into captivating books, and dancing with joyous abandon. She was also a founding member of the Fun Club, a bi-monthly friend group that gathered for 40 years sharing new adventures together.

In the face of adversity, Judy’s courage and resilience shone brightest. For 18 years, she bravely battled Alzheimer’s Disease, with Jerry and her devoted family tirelessly caring for her every need. Despite the challenges she faced, Judy’s spirit remained indomitable, and her love for life never wavered.

Judy’s commitment to serving her community was exemplary. She volunteered her time with PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) and CASA (agency for children in foster care), advocating passionately for the welfare of vulnerable individuals. Additionally, Judy was an active member of Christ the Servant Church, where she served as a lector and participated in social justice advocacy efforts.

Judy’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but her legacy of love, laughter, and strength will continue to inspire generations to come. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.  We will remember her beautiful smile.

Judy is survived by her husband, Gerald, brothers, James Van Eyck, Jerome (Judith) Van Eyck, and sister-in-laws Midge (late Dan) Sandall and Candace (late John) Van Eyck.  She was preceded in death by her sister Joan and brother-in-law Carmen Miceli, sister-in-law Miriam and brother-in-law Dr. Delio Menicucci, and her parents Willis and Marian Van Eyck.

Judy’s family would like to send a warm-hearted thank you to all her caregivers, specifically Lisa and Monah from Heartland Hospice, Darlene and Teo from Maya’s Villa, and her caring neighbor Joyce.

A private burial and prayer service for family will take place on March 1, 2024, at 1 PM at Southern Wisconsin Veteran’s Cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin. A celebration of Judy’s life will be held on May 19th, 2024, from 2 to 5 PM at Twin Lake Country Club in Twin Lakes, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maya’s Villa, 1309 Meadow Ln McHenry, IL 60050 in honor of Judy’s memory.
