Carlton P. Bye, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2021 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Crystal Lake.

He was born on July 31,1928 in Fergus Falls, MN to Cecil S. and Henrietta (nee Pederson) Bye. The family later moved to Minneapolis,MN where Carl met his future bride, Audrey L. Smith. They were married on October 25,1950 and raised three children.

Carlton was fascinated by airplanes and worked hard to afford flying lessons and obtained his pilot’s license when he was just a teenager. He enlisted in the Navy at age 20 and trained to fly his beloved Corsair aircraft and served on the aircraft carrier, US Leyte. He was honorable discharged on 11/12/1953 but remained in the Naval Reserve for 20 years. He was employed by United Air Lines until his retirement in 1988, retiring at Captain on the Boeing 747. He was also an active member of the Illinois Masonic Lodge.

After retiring Carl and Audrey spent their summers in McHenry, IL and were snowbirds in Sarasota, FL during the winter. He enjoyed golfing and socializing with friends. He was deeply concerned about the political climate in our country and was a staunch patriot to the end.

Carlton is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Bill) Tegtmeier; Granddaughters Amy (Ben) Pusakulich and Kimberly (Gabe Romero) Tegtmeier; Great-granddaughters Shayla and Tea Pusakulich; great grandson; Austin Romero and former daughter in law: JoAnne Grabowski.

In addition of his wife, Audrey, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael C. Bye, and daughter Charlene Clouse.

Visitation will be Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10am until the memorial service at 11am at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 404 N. Green Street, McHenry, IL. Interment will be private and held at a later date.
