Carla Berthold (nee Harris), 77, of Island Lake, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022. She was born on July 12, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Carl and Geraldine Harris.

She was the loving mother of son Ed (Michelle), daughters Jill (Dean) and Beckie, adored grandmother of Eddie and Max Berthold and Lily and Tallulah Lawson, sister of Michael Harris, cousin and friend to many.

Carla was a loving and well-loved woman. She enjoyed life, and her favorite times were those spent with her children and grandchildren. In 2001, she moved to Island Lake, where she immediately put her green thumb to work creating beautiful gardens in her yard. She loved animals, and the neighborhood cats had a treasured friend in her. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake Christmas cookies. Each year Carla made sure everyone had cookies to last them well into the new year. She was generous and always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Carla will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Carla’s life is being planned. Details to follow. If you would like to make a donation in her honor, please make your memorial contributions in her name to animal rescue and care facilities in your area.
