Daniel M. Anderson passed away peacefully Monday, April 1, 2025, with his wife, Karen, at his side and their sweet puppy, Lily. He resided in Hawthorn Woods, IL.
Born on July 18, 1947, in Chicago, IL, to Harold and Lois Anderson, Dan lived a vibrant life filled with music, cars, and family. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his mother, Lois, who recently celebrated her 99th birthday; his son, Eric Anderson of Winlock, WA; his son, Tim (Rachel) Anderson of Chicago, IL; and his stepdaughter, Alissa (Kenny) Phillips of Greentown, IN. Dan was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many, cherishing each one dearly. He is also survived by his brothers, David and Kevin, and his sister, Judy. His son, Peter D Anderson, preceded him in death on June 6, 2024.
Dan’s life was always set to the tune of one of his many favorite songs. He was a wonderful singer who often filled his home with the sound of voice and bellows of his guitar. Dan led several rock bands throughout his lifetime and inspired countless parties and celebrations to go well beyond their scheduled time. He was an entertainer who gave selflessly through his passion for music.
Dan loved cars from an early age and led to a full and accomplished career at Volkswagen of America. He began as a shop foreman at a Volkswagen dealership, and would progress to the role of Product Liasson Engineer and expert witness for both Audi and Volkswagen of America. His automotive passions would extend his career after retirement, transitioning into his business as an Automotive Consultant.
Dan’s prized possessions included a Sunbeam Tiger, Ford Thunderbird, and Ford Mustang and many
motorcycles. He was an active member of the Chicagoland Thunderbird club. Few individuals could say they’ve spent more time at local car shows than Dan & Karen. Dan was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed eating breakfast with friends and family on the weekends.
Dan cherished quality time with family and friends, eager to lend a hand, a tool, or share a meal. His smile, laughter, and confidence are all unmistakably his own. He could light up any room with one of his many stories (all true, of course…), and made everyone he met feel like a friend. He will be missed dearly by all who were blessed to know him.
Services will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery 20953 W Hoff Rd Elwood, IL. 60421. on April 11, 2025, at 11am.
