Terry Ray Nelson passed away at home with his devoted wife holding his hand after a long illness on November 29, 2019 in Spring Grove, IL, at the age of 76. Terry was born on March 30, 1943 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Terry served in the United States Navy from September 11,1961 through December 24,1963 as a non-petty officer. He served on the USS Johnston on patrol in the Caribbean Sea during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Terry was a Union off-set printer pressman and worked for several publishing companies in the Chicagoland area until he retired.

Terry’s favorite pet was a dalmatian named Duke, although he was a lover of all animals, including stray cats and various wildlife. One of his favorite pastimes was hosting summer barbeques for his many family members and friends, where he often manned 3 grills at a time.

Terry was a devoted husband and father, grandfather and friend to many. His humble nature was always overshadowed by his generous actions.

Terry is survived by his caring wife Debra K. Nelson, son Robert E. Nelson, grandson Tyler R. Nelson, stepdaughter Shannon M. McHugh (Ted), stepson Patrick J. Gluchman Jr. (Michelle) and step-granddaughter Emily Gluchman. Loving siblings include Gayle P. Kouba, Richard C. Nelson, Gary D. Nelson (Lynn), Wendy E. Desecki (Vince), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Terry is preceded in death by his father Charles S. Nelson, mother Vivian C. Nelson and niece Stacie L. Desecki.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date. If you wish to send condolences, you may do so through one of Terry’s favorite charity organizations: The Purrfect Cat Rescue in Crystal lake, IL. (purrfectcatrescue.com).
